Bryan Mbeumo replacement? Brentford consider move for Celtic winger Nicolas Kühn
Celtic forward Nicolas Kühn has made a name for himself in the Champions League this season with some remarkable performances. The German winger was particularly impressive for the Scottish Premiership champions in their recent 3-1 win over RB Leipzig, where the 24-year-old talent bagged two goals at Celtic Park. In total, the player signed for just €3.5 million from Rapid Vienna in January of this year has already picked up an incredible 10 goals and 11 assists in 17 appearances across all competitions. And that has led to a number of big clubs in Europe’s top leagues taking note of the player’s talents.
According to Transfermarkt information, the player and his club have been made aware of interest from Premier League side Brentford. The English club are reportedly on the hunt for a long-term replacement for right winger Bryan Mbeumo, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks. Kühn, who has a contract with Celtic until 2029, reportedly has an asking price of no less than €30m. And the Scottish giants will have little concern over sticking to their guns with that asking price. In the last five seasons alone, the Glasgow club have made an impressive €154m from selling players to richer clubs around Europe. This includes a number of players that have moved to the Premier League, such as Matt O’Riley (€29.5m to Brighton), Odsonne Edouard (€16.3m to Crystal Palace) and Kristoffer Ajer (€15.7m to Brentford). Should Kühn demand a fee as high as the one reported in the English press, he would become Celtic’s record sale.
Although the forward is still in his first year at Celtic, there’s little doubt that he would be tempted by a move to the English top-flight. In a recent interview with Transfermarkt, the 24-year-old talent spoke of his ambition to play in the Champions League and to one day represent his national team at international level. "The Champions League was of course a childhood dream and has always been a clearly formulated goal of mine," said Kühn when asked about playing in Europe's premier competition for Celtic this season. Having now featured and undoubtedly thrived in Europe’s premier competition, Kühn will now have his ambitions set on playing for Germany, which would likely be made far easier if he was scoring and creating goals for Brentford in the Premier League, as he now is for Celtic in Scotland.
