Omar Marmoush - Meet the Frankfurt star who is outscoring Harry Kane & Co.
Omar Marmoush stood out in the Bundesliga match of the week between Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayern Munich (3-3). The Egyptian striker, who also has a Canadian passport, scored twice and provided an assist. With eight goals this season, Marmoush now leads the Bundesliga goalscoring charts ahead of England striker Harry Kane, who struggled against Frankfurt on the weekend and had to come off with an injury. With that performance in mind, it now feels only a matter of time until Marmoush joins the likes of Randal Kolo Muani, Luka Jovic, and Sébastien Haller on Frankfurt’s list of club record sales (overview).
“In Marmoush, Frankfurt had a difference maker in their team today,” Bayern director of sport Max Eberl said after the game. “He is incredible form and has a killer instinct in front of goal.” Bayern’s head coach, Vincent Kompany, agreed. “Marmoush has incredible qualities,” Kompany said. “Of course, we wanted to stop him, but players like him only need a few moments to shine.” That’s certainly no understatement when it comes to Marmoush.
Signed on a free transfer from Wolfsburg in 2023, Marmoush’s numbers are impressive. The Egyptian national team forward (32 games, six goals) has scored every 63 minutes in the Bundesliga this season. Furthermore, across all competitions, Marmoush has scored nine goals in nine games, or a goal every 83 minutes. But it hasn’t just been goals either as the striker has also produced six assists across all competitions. Only three strikers have been more productive in Europe’s top five leagues this season (overview).
Omar Marmoush: Eintracht Frankfurt expect offers
It is a big step forward for Marmoush, who managed 12 goals and six assists in 29 Bundesliga games last season. But what has been the reason behind his success this season? “It just has been fun,” Marmoush said when asked about what the difference has been this season. “We are one big family and celebrate together as a team.” The team factor was also one of the big reasons why the striker—the 13th fastest player in the Bundesliga with a top speed of 35.14km/h—decided to stay in Frankfurt this summer and reject an offer from Nottingham Forest.
That decision might pay off in the long run. Rather than playing for a struggling mid-table team in the Premier League, Marmoush has been tearing apart Bundesliga backlines. His recent performance against Bayern will have put several top clubs on alert. Transfermarkt has also noted the development as Marmoush was one of the big winners of the recent Bundesliga market value update. Marmoush saw his market value increase by €18m to now €40m. “It is incredible what he is doing on the pitch,” Frankfurt head coach Dino Toppmöller said after the Bayern game. “If he keeps playing like that, it will only be a matter of time for other clubs to make offers again.”
Under contract until 2027, Frankfurt are, however, in complete control when it comes to Marmoush’s future. “Omar is totally focused and direct in front of the goal,” Frankfurt’s director of sport Markus Krösche said. “Currently, he is one of the best strikers in the Bundesliga. That makes us happy.” Thanks to Marmoush, Frankfurt are currently just one point behind league leaders Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig, and the sense is that Die Adler could become the surprise team of the season. That would only help Marmoush’s market value even further and increase his chance that one day soon, he will become the latest striker to leave Frankfurt for a significant transfer fee.
