The transfer window closed on Friday for the majority of clubs including the top five leagues. The market is still open in some countries, including Turkey until September 13th, but the majority of business has been completed. It was another busy summer with Premier League clubs spending more than double any other league at a total close to €2.33 billion.

The top three biggest spending clubs this summer play in the English top-flight with Chelsea taking top spot with €239m ahead of Brighton and Manchester United. Brighton, however, had the highest net spend of €183m with the Seagulls backing new manager Fabian Hürzeler after years of selling their biggest assets for huge profits. But which clubs from around the world make the biggest transfer profits during the summer window? Let’s find out.

The clubs with the biggest transfer profits in 2024/25

Leeds United’s transfer profit of €130.48m was the highest of any club on the planet during this window, based on Transfermarkt data. After failing to secure promotion to the Premier League, Leeds sold off a host of first-team stars as they generated €162.9m in player sales, spending just €32.42m on new arrivals. Georginio Rutter (€46.7m), Archie Gray (€41.3m), Crysnescio Summerville (€29.3m) and Luis Sinisterra (€23.4m) all departed for fees in excess of €20m.

Manchester City have been renowned for their big spending across the last decade but the English champions are also excellent at selling players and they made the second biggest profit this summer of €116m. They recouped €141m from player sales with Julián Alvarez (€75m) their highest sale and they only spent €25m on signing Savinho. Benfica are famed for their ability to sell emerging talent for huge fees and they rank third with João Neves and Marcos Leonardo their biggest two departures. Burnley, perhaps surprisingly, feature in the top ten alongside two Serie A clubs - Bologna and Sassuolo - and two Ligue 1 clubs in Rennes and Toulouse.
