Man Utd 3rd, West Ham 8th, PSG 28th - Top 50 highest average attendances in Europe 2023/24
The 2023/24 season has thrown up plenty of drama across Europe, and fans have been loving it. Bayer Leverkusen romped to a surprise Bundesliga title, whilst Manchester City made history by winning four Premier League titles in-a-row. Real Madrid lifted a 36th La Liga, Inter Milan cruised to the Serie A title, and PSG made it nine titles from 11 seasons in France. But which clubs' supporters turned out in the best numbers across the campaign? Here at Transfermarkt, we have put together a list of the top 50 clubs with the highest average attendances across the whole of Europe in league games this season, and there are some very surprising results. Two clubs who are playing outside of their countries top-flight even make the top 20!
Top 50 highest average attendances in Europe this season
Leading the way in first place is German giants Borussia Dortmund with a staggering average attendance of 81,305 supporters at Signal Iduna Park. With the stadium capacity only 81,365, it means the stadium was 99.9% full on average throughout the 23/24 season. Dortmund are renowned for their electric fanbase and 'yellow wall' and top Europe when it comes to support this campaign. The club will be hoping their infamous fans will help them in the Champions League final at Wembley this weekend. In second position is another German side in Bayern Munich boasting an average attendance of exactly 75,000, practically filling their 75,024 capacity Allianz Arena across the Bundesliga season.
In third is Manchester United's Old Trafford with an average attendance of 73,534, filling 98.2% of the capacity of the stadium. The old ground however has been questioned this season with numerous leaks taking place, and is expected to be renovated soon, with Jim Ratcliffe setting sights on building the 'Wembley of the north' in the next few years. Fourth place goes to Inter Milan with an average attendance of 72,838 at the old ground which their supporters refer to as the 'Stadio Giuseppe Meazza'. They beat their rivals AC Milan who are sixth with an average attendance of 72,000 at the same ground (which they and most neutrals better know as the San Siro). In between the Milan rivals are Real Madrid in fifth with an average attendance of 72,061. This number will no doubt be a lot higher next season as renovations have meant the Santiago Bernabéu has only recently reopened in its new incredible 81,044 capacity, with reduced crowds for much of this term.
Seventh goes to Roma with an average attendance of 62,925 at the Stadio Olimpico this season, filling just 85.9% of the historic stadium. They are followed by West Ham in eighth place, making the Hammers the top London club this campaign with an average attendance of 62,440 at the London Stadium, filling 99.9% of the arena's 62,500 capacity. In ninth position is remarkably a team outside their countries top-flight. Schalke, who finished tenth in the Bundesliga 2, still posted an average attendance of 61,358, filling 99.8% of their stadium's capacity. A remarkable show of support. Completing the top 10 is Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium with an average attendance of 61,459, filling 97.8% of their ground and pipping rivals Arsenal who are in twelfth with an average of 60,236.
